Dalat visit to the Hearing Impaired School 10th Oct 2016 – Revisit to see what new problems and or help they need I, Michael Russell-Mott, visited the school with Nham and found they had a new headteacher. The lady we last spoke to had retired. Nham spoke in length to the head asking about what the school needs were and were then taken from class to class where Nham spoke to each teacher, in turn, to determine exact needs for each class/year level while taking detailed notes. Once the tour was over we had another brief chat with the Head on what we would like to buy and the school supplied us with a mini bus and driver. Costs are as follows:
90 notebooks x 7,000VND = 630,000VND
8 sets of textbooks (9 books/set) x 77,700VND = 622,600VND
48 quality pencils x 12,000VND = 576,000VND
40 quality pens = 200,000VND
5 boxes of crayons x 20,000VND = 100,000VND
10 erasers x 11,000VND = 110,000VND
3 pairs of Learning English by Pictures calendars levels 1-3 x 58,000VND = 348,000VND
Toys (soft toys, cars, dolls, action figures, role play etc.) = 2,190,000VND
The items bought will go into a store in the school to enable the items to be used by other children each year. More help is needed there and we will revisit to assess what else we can help with. There are minority children there who stay most of the year visiting families maybe twice a year. Some of these children require shoes which at the moment get bought by the teachers out of their own money. In the afternoon we visited the sewing room and clothes making rooms, the sewing room looked great and Brenda Smiths donated electric sewing machine was still there being used and in great shape. They are so grateful for that donation. The room with the looms needs to upgrade with new machines that are newer and not borrowed. We will look into the costing of that and assess if we can help in any way. The whole day’s experience was wonderful and I cannot thank Nham enough for her time, dedication, experience and genuine heart in helping FFV to help these children achieve a better future. Nham an I loved every minute with the teachers and children at the school.
