Gift giving at Cao Bang – 6 August 2014

We joined up with Hoa Tam charity group to Duc Hanh, Bao Lac in Cao Bang Province, Vietnam to carry out health checking and gift giving (including free medicine) for a whole minority village of 547 poor families and 748 children.

There are 421 primary students and 328 kindergartens. Each gift package for the children includes: medicine, schoolbag, 5 notebooks, 1 bag of cakes, 1 bag of sweets, 1 sandal, 1 pack of milk, 1 pack of sausage, instant noodles, colour book, crayons, pencils, blackboard, chalk and clothes.

As the children are our main priority, we want to ensure they are fully equipped for school as we truly believe in education as one of the key factors of escaping poverty and having a second chance in life. Therefore, we went down the route of stationary for the students and toys for the kindergartens. Here is a breakdown of the stationary and how we are utilising your donation.

– 1,720 notebooks x 25.5k = 4,386,000VND
– 4 boxes of crayons x 500k = 2,000,000VND
– 500 blackboards x 8.5k = 4,250,000VND
– 500 box of chalk x 3k = 1,500,000VND
– 1000 pencils x 1k = 980,000VND
– 750 packs of sweets x 5,2k = 3,900,000VND
-Kindergarten toys = 1,690,000VND
– A part of the school bags = 794,000VND

Total = 19,500,000VND (approx. £544)

This is by far our biggest collaboration to date with a total project cost of nearly 200,000,000VND / £6,000. Witnessing a remote village with minimal educational resources and families that go through poverty coming together to receive their gifts to ease their struggle and put a smile on their faces has been a true blessing.

If there is anything we have learnt from this project that we can share with you, it would to appreciate what you have as there are others that have it much worse than you and still carry a smile on their faces. Together there is hope.
