Francis shelter / Mai Am Phan Sinh – 8 August 2014

We were informed Francis shelter in Dong Nai needed our help. Francis shelter holds over 70 people with roughly 50 children that have a disability or are bed-ridden. They only have a few staff and it’s a real struggle to run the orphanage on a daily basis. After speaking with Father Joseph, the founder of Francis Shelter, we were quickly informed they don’t get much help from any organisations and food supply was generally low. We therefore took a trip to Francis Shelter to provide the following:

Cooking oil 5L: 5 x 120k = 600k
Magi seasoning powder 3kg: 2 packs x 160k = 320k
Soy sauce: 2 big bottles = 75k
Nam Ngư fish sauce: 10 bottles x 27k = 270k
Ajinomoto MSG: 10kg x 46k = 460k
Instant noodles: 10 boxes x 58k = 580k
Sugar: 10kg x 19k = 190k
Rice: 100kg x 11k = 1100k
Milk: 2 boxes x 290k = 580k

Total = 4.175.000VND (approximately £116)

It’s upsetting to see children that are bed-ridden and when you see the pain through their eyes, it breaks you down. We spoke to Father Joseph and he said most of the children that are bed-ridden are waiting for their time to go to heaven. Is this life? Is there hope for them? Can we do more? If they are really waiting for their time, we will do our best to ease the pain for them. Whether it’s having someone to dedicate more time to each child to doing some kind of activities to strengthen their body and put a smile on their faces, we can give them hope.

Thank you IYC for carrying out the survey of the orphanage and assisting us on our trip to Francis Shelter.
